Situated at the center of Dongguan, the Songshan Lake Science City is a key link for Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao Scientific and Technological Innovation Corridor and plays a crucial role in building a comprehensive national science center pioneer zone in Guangdong-Hong KongMacao Greater Bay Area. To its south are Shenzhen and Hong Kong, and to its north is Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province. Covering a planned area of 90.52 square kilometers, the Songshan Lake Science City is endowed with rich natural resources, including the beautiful Songshan Lake that spreads over 8 square kilometers. Presently, a number of scientific facilities, key laboratories, and research-oriented universities have settled in the Songshan Lake Science City, such as the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS, the country's first pulsed spallation neutron source and the fourth in the world), 3 universities, and 32 R&D institutions jointly built by Peking University, Tsinghua University, and other domestically renowned universities. The City University of Hong Kong （Dongguan ） plans to open admissions by 2023. Seeing that the project of building a comprehensive national science center pioneer zone in Guangdong-Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area provides a great opportunity for the Songshan Lake Science City, the Chinese Academy of Science and the city government - the two parties that jointly build the Songshan Lake Science City - aim to create a cluster of major scientific facilities and establish a number of research institutes, such as frontier research institutes for interdisciplinary sciences and key laboratories, thereby bringing significant achievements to the field of independent innovation, enhancing transformation and application of scientific and technological achievements and promoting
industrial transformation and upgrading.
